Photo Gallery - Hotel Vila Sikaa, Trogir
The city of Trogir (i.e. its old nucleus) is situated on an islet between the mainland and the island Ciovo, often called «little Venice». Apart from its lok which reminds of Venice, the city sinks one milimeter a year.A small stone bridge connects Trogir with the mainland ( the northern part) and a big one (XX century) with the island Ciovo ( southern part).
The historic nucleus of Trogir is a unique cultural monument and therefore it was registered on the UNESCO list in 1997.
The unique historical nucleus and the richness of cultural and historical heritage, which inspired chance travellers as well as travel writers through centuries, hold out to a tourist an unforgettable encounter of past and present.
The whole city is a monument complex from which only the best – known are listed as it follows:
- St. Barbara's church is the most interesting early medieval church, probably dating back to the XI century.
- St. Lawrence cathedral ( called St. John by the citizens) is one of the most valuable monuments on the eastern coast of the Adriatic.
- The Kamerlengo fortress, built in Venetian times, is the most beautiful stage housing music evenings, concerts, manifestations, festivals, various plays.
